Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince: Did "you know what" really happen? I think it was all planned out by DD, and it seems like most people agree.

Thu, October 20, 2005 - 7:04 PMjust because it was planned out by DD, doesn't mean that DD didn't die.

Wed, November 2, 2005 - 2:01 PMMaybe the thing with DD is a Gandalf thing, you know how Gandalf died Gandalf the Grey and came back as Gandalf the White, and even more powerful?
Plus DD and Faux are deeply connected in a way...we'll just have to see. -

Tue, December 6, 2005 - 12:01 PMI don't think that DD is really dead. I believe that it was staged by Snape and DD. Snape is a double agent, but I believe that he is still on the good side. With DD believed dead, he can watch after Harry better and help him defeat Voldemort. I believe that DD's death was faked to bring Voldemort out of hiding. After all, DD was the only great wizard that he truly feared.

Which is exactly why he had to be written out of the story. If there's always this big, uber-powerful wizard to swoop in and save the day, Harry is never going to come in to his own. The last chapter of the book has to be the battle between Harry and Voldemort. Not Dumbledoor and Voldemort.
Besides, JK Rowling has stated on previous occasions that she doesn't believe in bringing back characters who have died. She said this when everyone was hoping that Serius's death wasn't real, or would be somehow undone. Making Dumbledoor's death a sleight of hand trick would cheapen it significantly. -

Sun, December 11, 2005 - 10:02 AMNot to mention that as soon as he died, his portrait showed up in his.....or is now Professor McGonagall's office. As much as we all hate it, and don't want it to be true, yes, DD is definitely dead. -

Fri, December 16, 2005 - 12:56 PMI'm still back and forth on it-
at least we are agreed that it was pre-planned.
Lots of stuff in the book makes me think he didn't die, but looking back on what I wrote before the book came out, about how DD HAD to go, I'll accept that I was right earlier, and forget how the book confused my predictions :) -

Fri, December 16, 2005 - 1:11 PMi think that the "Dumbledore had it all planed out so that his death would stop voldemort" route is the most likely.

Fri, December 16, 2005 - 1:14 PMI think one of the most difficult things about being a HP fan is that JKR is writting these slowly as we ponder the future- it means that she finds out all the various theories people have and it helps to give her inspiration for clues that could go many ways. She knows us better then we know her.

Fri, July 14, 2006 - 5:59 AMAs long as he doesn't return as Dumbledore the white, I stand by my faith that Miss Rowling is not going to disappoint us.
